Hey there!
Just wanted to drop you a note to tell you that our Detroit rain water catchment and filtration project is complete! We were so excited to partner with Nurturing Our Seeds in Detroit, MI to create this system for their urban farm needs.
First, we got a shed off of marketplace to re-purpose into our Water House. Then we got to work building a pavilion where farmers from Nurturing Our Seeds as well as a collective of other Black urban farm initiatives will gather to wash and pack vegetables for distribution in their communities. We added roofing and gutters to catch rain water and installed the filtration equipment inside the shed. Lastly, we hooked up solar panels and a controller so that the filtration equipment could all be powered off solar energy!
We are super proud of this project because we feel it really meets a need in this community. Nurturing Our Seeds expressed need for irrigation and clean water so that they could better serve their communities. We also utilized solar power for the first time which was really exciting! On top of that, our newest staff member Jaz, was able to travel up and see the Water House in action which was really important as she continues to look for urban farms we can support and funding for new projects.
We will be closely following up on this project over the summer and fall to adjust the equipment as necessary and see the Water House in action! Follow us on social media for updates about upcoming projects and the impact this one made!
We cannot thank you enough for your part in making this project happen. All the folks at Nurturing Our Seeds thank you for your hearts for their communty as well.
Check out photos and video below of the completed project and THANK YOU for your generosity!
