Dixie Adoptables has done amazing things over the past few years, saving and re-homing over 2000 animals that otherwise would have been euthanized. In order to continue this effort though, we need to construct a new facility that will allow us to properly quarantine and house more animals until they can be re-homed through transport. This project's goal is to raise enough funds to begin construction of this new facility.
This has truly been a rewarding few years for all of us and we are proud of our accomplishments. However, we are now limited on how many more animals we can help with our current shelter facility. The shelter's main building is very small and was constructed in the 1980s using a fundamentally flawed design. It has serious plumbing and electrical problems and there is no way to make the kennels sanitary. The facility is on low-lying land with no room for expansion. We need a new facility!
We are raising money to use this donated land to expand our facilities, which will in turn greatly increase our ability to help animals in the community. Our goal is to construct a 10,000 square foot facility that puts all of the needed services under one roof, then move all of the appliances, fixtures, and other items from the old facility to the new one. We also recently acquired 41 top of line kennel runs, worth $100,000, but need a facility that is large enough for us to install them in.
Building a new facility will allow us to help more animals and provide better care for them including: * Properly quarantine animals on initial intake and during treatments * Install the new sanitary kennel runs * Improve our ability to clean and maintain all areas * Build proper exercise areas for animals * Greatly increase our capacity to take in homeless animals and house them until a new home can be found for them * Increase security for the animals * Make maintenance more efficient
