Dear Partner,
On behalf of my team at World Inspiring Network, we wish you a Happy New Year! We are excited to share the outcomes of our recent IoT and Robotics Training program, held at Prang Senior High School in the Bono East region of Ghana from November 25 to 26, 2024. This initiative was organized by the Internet Society's Internet for Education Special Interest Group (SIG) in partnership with the World Inspiring Network.
The program aimed to educate students and teachers about the Internet of Things (IoT) and robotics. 55 students and 5 teachers participated in this 2-day training. The primary objectives were to introduce students to the basics of IoT and robotics, provide hands-on training on Arduino, and donate Arduino kits to Prang Senior High School for future practical sessions.
The event began with registration and concluded each day at 3:25 PM GMT. The Director of Education for the Pru West District and the Assistant Headmaster of Administration for Prang Senior High School delivered an inspiring speech, encouraging students to seize the opportunity to learn about IoT and robotics. Mr. Shadrach Ankrah, the lead facilitator, welcomed participants and set the tone for the program.
On the first day, Mr. Victor Atta delivered a presentation on the introduction to IoT and robotics, focusing on Arduino. The students were introduced to Arduino and, led by Mr. Victor, demonstrated how to make a traffic light using Arduino kits. In the afternoon, students participated in a DIY session, guided by Mr. Alhassan Haruna, where they made a robotic arm and a toy helicopter.
The second day began with Mr. Shadrach delivering a presentation designed to introduce the participants to the Internet Society. He provided a brief overview of the organization’s mission. Mr. Victor Atta continued by introducing the students to robotics and IoT applications while explaining the components of the Arduino kit. Afterward, the students practiced coding the buzzer to produce sounds similar to a siren and coded an LED to create light patterns. In the afternoon, students participated in another DIY session, guided by Mr. Alhassan Haruna, where they made a toy car powered by a balloon and a toy helicopter.
At the end of the program, 6 Arduino kits were donated to Prang Senior High School to give students the tools to practice and reinforce their learning.
The IoT and Robotics Training program was a resounding success. 55 students gained valuable knowledge and practical skills in IoT and robotics. The program's objectives were achieved, and donating Arduino kits will ensure the initiative's sustainability. World Inspiring Network is committed to promoting digital literacy and education in Ghana, and this program is a testament to that commitment.
We recommend expanding the program to other regional schools. Future programs should include more hands-on training sessions and projects. Establishing a mentorship program to support students who have participated in the training would also be beneficial.
Thank you for your continued support in making such impactful programs possible. We look forward to your feedback and hope to continue our collaboration to promote digital literacy and education in Ghana.
