Meet Bus

By Cathy Nelson | Project Leader

Bus on the day he arrived
Bus on the day he arrived
Please welcome Bus to Charis Youth Ranch. Bus is a Craigslist rescue whom we had been watching for a couple of weeks. He is a 21 year old Quarter Horse/Thoroughbred in desperate need of groceries. After speaking with his owner and finding out that he was likely going to auction the following week and most likely would be bought by a kill-buyer, we decided Bus needed a rescue. It’s a good thing we went right away because he is much, much thinner than he appeared in the Craigslist photo.
Bus has a road to health ahead of him. Since arriving on August 4, 2021, he has had his feet trimmed and is receiving special feed to get him gaining weight properly. We are planning a vet check and dental float and he is receiving regular turn out. We would love it if you would like to support our new guy!
Bus is super sweet and loves people. He was left behind when his owners and other five horses moved away. He stayed alone with the new homeowners who are not horse people. They stated that it was heartbreaking watching Bus see his family drive away. Knowing how sweet he is in person now, we know this has to be true. As we arrived, parked our trailer and walked to his paddock, Bus nickered at us as if saying "thank you for coming". When we walked into his paddock and opened the halter, he quickly shoved his nose down into it, seemingly to say "Let's get out of here!"
Bus was quite depressed and bewildered at first. He couldn't figure out what had happened. But now, Bus is gaining weight. He nickers to us and asks for his buckets at each mealtime. He has made a special friend in 3 year old Finley, the son of one of our volunteers. They are good buddies now. We are so happy that Bus has arrived at his new station, safe with us. Beep beep.
