Greetings to all from the High Atlas Foundation team!
We hope that all is well!
Everywhere in Morocco, especially in target areas, many schools lack the necessities of running water, toilets, and sometimes both. The lack of adequate drinking water supply and toilets in rural schools exposes children to gastrointestinal and waterborne diseases with a direct negative impact on learning and long-term development.
The High Atlas Foundation is currently implementing a clean drinking water project with the approximately 200 people of the Ibrouane village, located in the Toubkal municipality of the Taroudant province. After completing the municipal development plan involving community planning meetings on priority projects with all the 44 villages of the region (conducted in partnership with the National Endowment for Democracy), it was identified by the local people that Ibrouan's extremely poor drinking water quality is a most pressing initiative to be implemented. The distance they have to travel for unclean and unsafe water, and the terrible impact that it has on the health and education of the community's youth and adults, has prompted HAF and its supporters to respond.
The project materials are at the moment being purchased, and the community is paying for the transport of the materials to their village and is providing their labor in-kind. The Toubkal municipality is also the pilot site for organic agriculture, and our and the people's hope is that soon the increased revenue from the global sale of their certified organic almonds and walnuts will finance the human development projects most important to them, including clean water, building schools, and experiential training that benefit women and youth.
The High Atlas Foundation would like to thank all of its supporters; we could not achieve our goals without you!
Warmly,
~The High Atlas Foundation Team~
