Reaffirm our values every day and in every action
Building a school whose principles are valuing life, ecology, ethical relationships, with respect for human diversity, taking care of health and food, is a challenge we face every day. We started another school year in February, and this is a special year, marked by the growth of our school in the continuity of service: we now receive students from the 6th and 7th grade of elementary school. A new group of teachers and families that chose to continue with an education that looks at each subject and that cultivates not only formal learning, but community values, art and environmental education as central to social life, to give meaning to the contents that are taught.
We reaffirm the strength of this proposal, especially in view of the challenges we experienced in Brazil in April, when there were a series of attacks and threats to schools, which were invaded and in which teachers and students lost their lives. We believe that schools need to be places of life, respect, empowerment and construction of possibilities, in the face of such difficult social realities. Thus, we carried out several actions for peace, for valuing childhood, for the importance of playing, for being together, for respect and recognition of the native peoples of Brazil, and also against racism, sexism and attention to the excessive use of technologies. which leads to the spread of fake news and hate groups on the internet.
With older students, professors from different areas collectively plan and propose experiences that seek to answer the following questions: Who are we? Where are we in time and space? Each quarter, new questions are proposed to make sense of what they learn. Thus, we continue to cultivate a community that recognizes itself as co-responsible for reality, for the space and for the relationships they establish.
In addition to the daily actions of Quintal Project, in which the children plant, care for and learn about natural resources, we went with the older students to some natural and environmental preservation areas in the region, so that they could identify species of fauna and flora and to reflect on the importance of preserving space and water. We believe that in order to preserve and care for it, it is necessary to know and recognize the impacts of human action on the environment.
We are very grateful to you who contribute with us so that this project can exist with quality, because the amount we raise with the contributions of the families is still not enough for our sustainability! Thank you so much for believe and invest in education!
Best regards!
