Hello dear partner and collaborator!
We would like to share important actions carried out in recent months, which have taken place at our school, keeping our mission of ecological, global education alive and growing, based on our local reality.
The children were involved in projects whose principle is the interrelationship between different communities, societies, considering that human and natural existence has no borders! We all need to take care of this land, which is our home, common to all of us.
We learned about the importance of caring for waste, its impact on the environment, and the need to reduce waste and take advantage of reusable materials. Thus, we created the proper disposal of different materials (glass, plastic, metal and paper), we made toys with some of these materials and we also made recycled paper and papier-mâché. We share these contributions to the reduction of waste disposal with the entire community. Below is the testimony of some children:
“In addition to recycled paper. How we made this jackfruit, made with papier-mâché. It is a typical fruit of Capão. And besides that, we also made these pastries, to represent our typical cuisine from Vale do Capão, which are jackfruit palm heart pastries.”
“Here at the School, we took some actions to reduce the amount of waste and increase recycling. So, here are buckets for selective garbage collection.”
“We also use materials to make toys. Like this cardboard Frisbie that went to waste. We also recycle paper, which we use, draw, then they turn into brand new paper.”
In addition, with the strength of the community, in a dialogue with geologists Renato, Daniela and Kikiu who presented the Serra do Sincorá Geopark Project, the 4th and 5th grade children observed and manipulated samples of rocks, fossils and even Petroleum. They investigated and learned a lot about Earth's history.
The children also participated in competitions with other schools, in which they experienced proposals for human dignity; the approximation between the different generations, from the oldest to the youngest; of reducing machismo and emancipating women; to expand the possibilities for families to care for their members; for the renewal of economics and politics; and for the conscience in the care of our common home: the planet earth.
Contact with people from different regions and nations, learning about the culture of other peoples, through cuisine, stories, and also the culture and folklore of our region, were opportunities to strengthen citizen identity and awareness.
We also hold assemblies with the children, a very important moment in our school, when all classes meet with the pedagogical team and participate actively, dealing with everyday school issues. An opportunity to talk about small conflicts that arise during recess, food waste, adaptations to the lunch menu and everyone's responsibility for taking care of the school. We reaffirm our agreements and, thus, our children learn about the exercise of citizenship in practice.
Thus, between celebrations, training activities, dialogue with the community and approximation with our region, we build important steps towards an expanded, active and participatory ecological awareness.
We are grateful to everyone who contributes to the maintenance of our school and to a quality education in our locality, which reverberates in our country and in the world!
