This program will support 4 children from low-income families with daily vitamins, a bag of monthly pantry supplies, a kit of school supplies at the beginning of the school year, a backpack, weekly sessions with a tutor and a healthy snack at the end of each session in order for the beneficiaries to start primary school with the goal that they will continue studying and have bright futures.
In Guatemala more than 30% of children do not continue studying after the first grade, 70% of students in rural areas will not continue after the third grade and 76% will never complete primary school. This means that many Guatemalan children never learn to read, do not have good work or economic opportunities, they get married and start having families at an early age, they get involved in delinquency and gangs, they take refuge in alcoholism and drugs. and the cycle of poverty continues.
Low-income families face many challenges when their children enter school. This program provides reward to parents for the sacrifices they are making by supporting their children to study and gives them the tools they need to help their children to be successful in their studies. It also seeks to level the playing field among children from low-income families and those from families with greater economic opportunities.
We hope to some day see the children who benefit from this program grow to be professionals, be the change for society, be an economic aid to their families, have a better life than their parents and help others. In particular we hope that 100% of our students continue their studies after the first year, that 100% of our students finish the 3rd grade and that at least 80% of our students complete primary school.
