CHILDREN PUT ON THEIR BOOTS TO DEFEND THEIR RIGHTS
Children from mining areas in Boyacá have created a story called "The True Story of Puss in Boots." The story describes how children's rights are ignored in everyday life in Colombian society. Hundreds of thousands of children in the country lack the right to belong to a family, to healthy food, to quality education, or to medical care. They are mistreated with physical and psychological violence. Many suffer sexual abuse.
These children from mining areas live in a patriarchal, authoritarian culture. There is a lot of domestic violence and poverty. The parents of these children work in coal mines for poverty wages and at great risk to their physical and health.
There are definitely many reasons why our children in Boyacá should put on their boots to fight for their rights.
