Thank you once again for your continued support for this GlobalGiving project. It is one of the various ways we raise money for our Benevolent Fund, from which we are able to support deserving local, national and international causes.

Helped by the generosity of you, our GlobalGiving supporters, since our last report in June we have made the following donations from our Benevolent Fund:

  • £1,230 for enhancement and repairs to some of the borewells we provided in Kenya. Some of the wells needed to be dug deeper to provide water during the dry season when the water table is lower. Also a couple of the pumps needed maintenance. This work will return all the borewells to a fully functional state and this is the final payment for this project.
  • £1,368 for cleaning and repainting the ‘Billericay’ signs. In September 2021, following the winding-up of the Billericay Society due to lack of new members, the Club committed to take on the care and maintenance of the three ‘Billericay’ signs that were installed by the Billericay Society many years ago on the approach roads to Billericay from Shenfield, Chelmsford and Basildon. Since 2021 we have monitored the condition of these signs and this year the decision was taken to have them cleaned and repainted as necessary. We secured the services of Peter Thomas, the painter who used to do this work for the Billericay Society (and who therefore had all the right paint colours in his workshop). In August/September he refurbished each sign in turn. They are now all back in place, looking very smart again, and should be good for another 3-4 years.
  • £200 donation to the RNLI. In September we had a lunchtime speaker from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and in response to this talk the Club agreed to make a £200 donation from our Benevolent Fund.
  • £1,085 for Rotary’s ‘End Polio Now’ project. For several years the Club has held a summer Paella Party in a member’s garden and those attending have made donations towards Rotary’s ‘End Polio Now’ project. This year was no exception and we raised £1,085 for this project. This figure will be double-matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, giving a total of £3,255 which equates to roughly 32,000 vaccine doses.

Thank you once again for your continued support.
