An adequate nutrition is the 1st requirement to start building a life with opportunities. After the flood Piura city suffered this year, many children have been left with nothing, including adequate food. We have experience on promoting better nutrition (and combatting anaemia) in the Andes and are able to provide the same support to those children currently living in this state of emergency for the last 50 days. Lunch Program is an initiative to face the current emergency.
The population of Piura has suffered a flood situation in March of this year. Thousands of people lost everything they have. Although the rainy season has stopped, children are starting to suffer from malnutrition and anaemia. Victims of floods were already poor and after the disaster, their situation became worse. The reconstruction is slow but health problems started. To learn more about what happened and our support to the victims of the emergency, follow this link:https://goo.gl/F79o6f
Our experience has proved that under emergency situations or very precarious life, the delivery of food is necessary to improve nutrition and keep working on building on Human Capital. At Cuncani, we combatted anaemia and are currently working in sustainable solutions. This project, will support the children during this time while reconstruction work and sustainable initiatives start to be implemented. This project will support 207 children in Piura by providing nutritious meals and improving their level of nutrition while reconstruction work starts. Although this project will require to be continued with other projects (that Nexos Comunitarios is currently implementing in other locations) it is necessary to act immediately during this emergency situation. A fast and well implemented initiative in Piura, will prevent children of bigger problems until reconstruction work starts.
