Help Boys Thrive: Ignite Hope

We are thrilled to present our quarterly project report on "Being a Man: Mentoring Boys, Empowering." Thanks to your generous contributions, we have made significant progress in empowering and guiding young boys through mentoring sessions.

This quarter, our program reached a total of 300 boys who actively participated in weekly after-school and weekend mentoring sessions. We designed these sessions to provide a nurturing space where young boys can develop essential life skills and build strong character foundations.

Through creative classes and sports events, our mentoring classes focused on three key areas:

A. The Man Battle: We organized activities and discussions centered around the challenges and responsibilities that come with manhood. The boys engaged in open and honest conversations on topics such as respect, integrity, empathy, and leadership. By addressing these subjects, we aim to cultivate a sense of responsibility and encourage positive decision-making among the boys.

B. Task Completion: We emphasized the importance of setting goals, working toward their completion, and developing resilience. We provided the boys with skills to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and overcome obstacles. These activities not only fostered a sense of accomplishment but also encouraged personal growth and self-confidence.

C. Building Trust and Strong Relationships: We facilitated interactive exercises and team-building activities to enable the boys to develop trust and forge strong relationships with their peers and mentors. By fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, we encouraged the boys to communicate openly, respect diverse opinions, and work collaboratively. These skills are crucial in building healthy relationships and promoting a sense of community.

None of these achievements would have been possible without your unwavering support. Your generous contributions have enabled us to provide mentors, educational materials, and resources necessary for the success and growth of this program. We are truly grateful for your dedication and belief in our mission.

Moving forward, we aim to expand the reach of our program and empower even more young boys in need. We are exploring opportunities to collaborate with local schools, community organizations, and businesses to create a sustainable approach in ensuring the long-term impact of our mentoring sessions.

In this quarter under impact review, over 120 boys participated in “Being A Man” mentoring program from three locations.

The boys were mentored on the BMAN 4Rs

• RESPECT
• RESPONSIBITY
• RELATIONSHIP
• RESILENCE

This was taught through football classes to demonstrate the real life applicability of these skills for the success of the team. The entire learning and training classes was 6 weeks.  They met on Fridays for learning session and Saturdays for training sessions. The learning periods lasted for one and half hour while the training periods lasted for four hours.

RESPECT

They learned the importance of the culture of respect. Emphasis was on self-respect. They were made to understand that without a culture of respect, mutual respect is unattainable. Reference were made to behaviours of footballers whose lack of respect for the team or the opposing team caused them to lose a game.

RESPONSIBILITY

The boys hold a good meaning of responsibility in its true sense of the game of football. They were taught on vital role of each football player in the team and how the failure of any player to keep up and discharge their responsibility causes them to lose a game or possible substitution for such player. We stressed further on how failure to take responsibility in their individual lives would lead to failure and could cause them to lose their self-value.

RELATIONSHIP

They quickly grasped the deeper meaning and true value of relationship while passing the ball around and that when the ball is out of relationship to their teammates they lose the ball to the opposing team. Healthy relationship was likened to when they kept the ball in possession and unhealthy relationship is when they were not in possession of the ball. We demonstrated how good relationship attracts positive outcomes and negative relationships repels great life outcomes.

RESILIENCE

The boys learnt that resilient individuals and teams have the ability to maintain a consistent level of high performance in the face of change, adversity and stress. For example, seeing a match as an opportunity to win, instead of an opportunity for failure.  They had a relatable experience by demonstrating resilience in training and explain resilience as the ability to successfully adapt to stressors, maintaining psychological well-being in the face of adversity. It's the ability to “bounce back” from difficult experiences in life.

The mentoring session ended with Q&A session. We were able to successfully install these important life skills in the boys through your generous donations.  We have a target to reach 500 boys in the next quarter.
