This project will provide access to safe clean drinking water in twelve rural communities in 3 Local Councils Shiende, Uganda who have outbreaks of water related diseases where 21 children out of 63 reported cases died. The project will build tube wells, improved tippy taps, ventilated improved pit toilets and also train children on good hand washing practices. The project will also provide WASH materials, face masks, sanitizers and palliatives to fight the current Corona Virus in the state.
The natural water sources in rural communities in shiende are limited and lack water purification system, 41,201 people in these communities have been living without insufficient, broken down and unclean water sources for many years which leads to outbreaks of diseases with inadequate healthcare facilities. The lack of these facilities has further heightened the spread of Corona virus in our communities. This project will affect more than 12 villages which are the most vulnerable.
The project will provide access to water for the communities as well as WASH materials such as powdered detergent and soaps for good hygiene practices which will in turn improve the quality of lives. We will also provide training to the community on good hand washing practices and how to keep clean always to prevent diseases especially now during this pandemic of COVID 19; also other pro poor initiatives will be adopted on economic growth through the use of local water filtration methods.
The project will impact on more than 3 villages which are the most vulnerable within & in surrounding villages on good hand washing & hygiene practices which will improve the quality of their lives. It will also help in developing local business amongst women through the sale of purified water using local water filtration methods. The project will also educate the community on water storage and home management of water thus enhancing the health & well being of the family.
