Report No. 3

By Elke Kroeger-Radcliffe | Project Leader

Working with our new incubator to hatch the chicks
Working with our new incubator to hatch the chicks

Dear friends,

vaccination hesitancy is widespread in Zambia, but the entire crew have had their first vaccination and Tiko has not had a single case of covid-19.

When our lodge was closed the crew received half allowances, but now they are again working fulltime and receiving full allowances. Tiko has started a village-chicken rearing business which has energized the crew.

The harvest is still in still full swing and most people are having a good harvest. Only those living on the lower land lost out as a result of the heavy rains. Now everyone is threatened by the many thieves in the present economic situation which is badly affected by inflation.

Many people are building storage silos which alas are not vermin proof. Tiko will buy all the crops that are left when they have stored what their families will need for one year. We will thus be able to feed our chickens as well as people. Tiko hopes to have a lot of chickens to feed as well as selling home-made chicken feed. Our first yam crop will be harvested in June, so we are hoping for a good yield.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support and we hope to keep you updated during these hard times.

All the best from whole Crew at Tiko.
