The update report on Bangladesh Roadside Tree Plantation project in four districts of PEP is as below:
Bogra:
In 2018, two roads of Bogra have been planted from the first week of July; the roads are Amboil road (from Amboil village to Bamihal village) and Mominpur road (from Mominpur village to Hatgari village). 485 saplings have been planted over 0.5 kilometer of Mominpur road; the tree caretaker is Majeda (49). On Amboil road, 1,550 saplings have been planted; the tree caretaker for this 1.5 kilometer road is Shanti. The five kilometers planted last year are being maintained.
Netrokona:
Total of 6.5 kilometers were planted in Barhatta upazila of Netrokona district. A list of roads planted in Barhatta with distances are:
Road 1: Rambhadrapur pacca road to Boroitola Bazar (1 kilometer, 1 watcher, 1,377 trees planted). A memorial stone is being prepared to honor the memory of Alyce M. Priesmeyer, mother of Tom Priesmeyer who died in 1960.
Raod 2: Rambhadrapur mor to Harulia Bridge (2.5 kilometer, 2 watchers, 1,894 trees planted)
Road 3: Harulia Bridge to Baghmara Bridge (3 kilometer, 3 watchers, 4,337 trees planted)
Total: 6.5 kilometers in Barhatta upazila, 7,608 trees planted
Note: Gap filling of trees lost in the first year will be implemented in June 2019
Chandpur:
As no roads were available in Kachua and Matlab Dakhin upazilas for plantations, PEP has decided to help extend plantation of fruit and timber saplings at the homes of the poor in these areas.
A total of 4,875 fruit and timber saplings have been distributed during July and August 2018 among 975 poorest families for their homestead plantations. Of them 2,925 were guava saplings and 1,950 were akashmoni saplings. Each family has received 3 guava and 2 akashmoni saplings.
Kishoregonj:
In August 2018, a total of 325 tree saplings were planted in Kashipur village, Singpur union (Nikli upazila of Kishoregonj district). This is the village that had annually been under water for about 6 months, forcing the 250 families settled there to search their livelihoods in slum areas of cities or renting land in higher surrounding villages till the flood water receded. Since the local government took the beautiful initiative of raising the land above flood-level, PEP has been helping with drinking water tubewells, sanitary toilets and more recently plantation of 325 homestead trees for the poorest.
