Atlas Ireland: Changing Lives Through Rugby – March Update

Atlas Ireland was founded by rugby legend and former British and Irish Lions player Shane Byrne, with a mission to use rugby as a catalyst for peace, reconciliation, and social inclusion across Ireland. Shane has seen firsthand how rugby transcends divides between Northern and Southern Ireland, fostering friendships that overcome barriers of religion, culture, and background. The spirit of rugby unites communities and instills values that empower young people.

Inclusive Rugby for Marginalised Youth

Atlas Ireland remains committed to reaching marginalised young people by partnering with International Mixed Ability Sports (IMAS) to deliver Mixed Ability Rugby sessions. These sessions create a safe and supportive environment for children who have experienced trauma or face additional challenges such as:
Physical disabilities
Life-limiting illnesses
Mental health struggles

By promoting inclusivity and empowerment, these sessions help children develop confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging—on and off the pitch.

TackleLondon: Extending Impact Across Borders

In the UK, Atlas continues this mission through TackleLondon, a groundbreaking initiative supporting young people affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) such as neglect, abuse, or poverty. Working in schools and rugby clubs across London, TackleLondon provides a nurturing space where young people can:
Build trusted relationships
Develop life skills
Create pathways to brighter futures

These safe and supportive environments equip young people with the tools they need to overcome challenges and thrive.
