Projects
The need to support vulnerable children in Asia continues and that remains our committed goal. We are determined to keep expanding our reach and maintaining support to thousands of children, helping with education, health and wellbeing through our partner programmes in Asia.
Kampuchea Ballop
The project continues to be a vital pillar for the children in Phnom Penh and Oudong, Cambodia to access regular rugby sessions and to feel that sense of inclusion and acceptance all children deserve.
The KB educators continue to make a positive impact on the children in the program and have a genuine desire to improve the lives of these disadvantaged children. We are delighted to have agreed a new three-year funding agreement with our partners at KB. Like many NGOs, KB has had funding challenges since COVID-19 and we are hoping that this renewed funding will enable KB to get back to usual service and manage further fund raising initiatives.
Khelo Rugby
Khelo Rugby continues to go from strength to strength with its truly community led programme with an ethos of “nothing for us without us” bearing on everything they do..
We are now in the second year of our three year funding agreement and we are delighted to continue our relationship with Khelo Rugby, now part of Future Hope. Our funding is used to support general operations and two tiers of educational scholarships at high school and university levels.
The project continues to help young children in India to thrive and we are very pleased to be a part of this programme. Atlas Foundation and Khelo Rugby share a drive and determination to support these children in their lives and education. Not only are the children at Khelo rugby given the chance to express and enjoy themselves through the amazing rugby programme, but the scholarship programmes ensure that children are able to continue their education in circumstances where they otherwise would not.
We aim to support projects that have a tangible and meaningful impact on individual children today, but we also aim to penetrate the stubborn barriers of inequality and deficits that linger in many communities over the long term. Khelo Rugby is a model example of delivering on those short and long term goals. Their impact is most clearly demonstrated with driving high school graduation rates from 18% to 80% in the communities they serve.
Future Hope with Khelo Rugby have released a podcast “Hope within the mango trees”, this allows the listeners a tangible insight into the project and the excellent work they do and appreciate the impact they have on the children within their community.
English Language Program
Our educational program with Khelo Rugby continues in Sarawatipur – in partnership with Khelo Rugby and Studycat (www.studycat.com ). The program provides pop up English classes for young children (ages 6-8). The initial pilot in Kolkota was a success but unfortunately they lost their accommodation to host the classroom this has meant that in Kolkata the classes are temporarily suspended. This has not dampened our enthusiasm and Khelo has taken the opportunity to extend the initiative to Sarawatipur.
With the money raised from the “Little by Little” campaign in 2022 we have been able to formally extend the programme, allowing us to purchase more tablets and employ one full time and one part time educator to support and nurture the programme. We have entered a three-year funding agreement to support this expansion, and look forward to seeing it go from strength to strength and expand the number of children benefiting from the programme.
Water and Health (WAH) Foundation Cambodia
We are excited to announce the launch of a Language learning lab in Kampong Chhnang due to start later in February 2025 in partnership with the Water and Healthcare (WAH) Foundation
Cambodia and Studcats.
The Language learning lab will be a stand alone classroom within an existing school with it’s own staff and scheduling. The programme will support up to 500 children in learning English, improving their life prospects immeasurably. This development would not be possible without the continued and generous support of Studycat who continue to supply their language learning app as well as their expertise and guidance in getting this project off the ground.
Both projects have continued to be supported by Studycat, for which we could not be more grateful. https://studycat.com/.
Mixed Ability Rugby - Singapore
Our unique Mixed Ability Rugby programme continues to grow in Singapore in partnership with special needs schools and international schools. We are so pleased to see this project flourish and will have some exciting news to announce in the coming months as we look to expand this project.”
Lanna Rugby Club
We are delighted to have entered a three year funding agreement with Lanna Rugby Club. Lanna Rugby Club has been running in Chang Mai since 2018. In the 2020-21 season, Lanna Rugby Club partnered with the Kids Ark Foundation, a local NGO in Chiang Mai that works with disadvantaged young people who are mostly children of migrant workers and offers care and education to disadvantaged children and youth in marginalized groups facing socio-economic difficulties in the north of Thailand.
With the grant provided they are able to include NGOs Baan Dek Foundation into our programme and their children https://www.baandekfoundation.org/.
They are focused on supporting young people who traditionally do not have access to high-quality coaching and education to be able to do so through rugby. They believe in a fully inclusive atmosphere which benefits all members and their communities.
The aim of the organisation is to grow rugby in Northern Thailand so that all members of our community can grow socially, emotionally and physically. We also hope that by doing this we can help ingrain rugby’s core values of integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline and respect in their young athletes.
Period Poverty
A further initiative we promote and support is Period Poverty and we are engaging all of the projects we support on the importance of supporting girls with the challenges they face every month. This is a long term project with which we will persist.
Other Project news
We are continuing to work with potential new partnerships in Myanmar and Sri Lanka.
As always, we thank all our donors and supporters without who this work would not be possible
