Wenlido Training
Wenlido is a personal safety and self-defence tool designed especially for women and girls. In month of April we organized Wenlido in Sagbara block in a girls’ hostel. Sagbara is predominantly tribal area with very low rate of development, and neighbouring block to Dediapada block where we are working primarily. 28 girls of age 16-17 took part in this training. They shared in their feedback that they would feel more safe going out after this training, and they learnt to make safe decisions for themselves. They also learnt to deep breathe when they feel scared.
In month of June, 42 girls of age 13-15 from an Aashram Shala in Dediapada were given introduction of wenlido training. They learnt how to say no, to ask for help, and how to take safe decisions.
Life Beyond Development Training:
We are facing climate crisis. It is important to make children aware about this issue and understand about how it is affecting our environment, people and their health.
3 trainings were held with 107 children during month of June and July. During the trainings we explored this topic through games, activities, movies, discussions, presentations, etc. on topics related to our day to day life like mobile phones, cloths, cosmetics, consumerism and waste.
In the feedback sessions most children vowed to make a difference in their life and also tell other people about it. Many also spoke about doing these activities as a collective. It was heart-warming to see a seed was sown in their hearts.
Balmelas:
In month of June 232 children from 3 Aashram shalas and school participated in Balmelas on 26th, 27th and 28th June respectively. The theme of Balmelas were paper craft, drawing, operation of human body and cooperative game.
Indian Multiversity Alliance Gathering:
Shaishav is part of Indian Multiversity Alliance which is a Pan India alliance of alternative learning spaces and part of a global Ecoversity alliance. We met several people who are experimenting with higher education field. The gathering presented us with an opportunity to understand our own initiative better, charge up and gather intellectual support for the same.
Meeting with Dilip Desai:
Dilip Desai has been mentor of Shaishav since a long time, and he has supported Aaranyak since its inception. We met with him in month of June where he discussed with us on “how to strengthen ourselves personally, to strengthen our work.” He put an emphasis on taking time out each day to reflect.
