By Erik Taylor | Executive Director
We’re pleased to report that we hired a new national director to oversee the daily operations of the research station. Her name is Leah Derksen and she is a teacher from Canada with a Master’s Degree in education. Leah’s capstone research project focused on a grassroots conservation organization and the way they build reciprocal relationships with their community. She has experience at numerous different conservation programs, including ones in Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Mozambique. She will be an invaluable member of our team and look forward to working alongside her beginning next month.
In addition we have 5 new volunteers arriving in April. They’ll be working on rebuilding our website, NGO support, graphic design, plant identification, and environmental education. Leah will oversee this new team of volunteers as they work out of the research station supporting the Aquicuana Reserve and local communities.
Its an exciting time for Sustainable Bolivia as we reinitiate our education program, bring on new staff, and host many new volunteers. We look forward to showing you their work in the next report.
Sending our love from the Bolivia Amazon,
Sustainable Bolivia
