Project Report | Dec 31, 2019
Final Report

By Cecilia Dieni | Office Fellow

What a year it has been with our young learners at Kamala School who without your support would not have been able to learn English - their key to a career and a better future for them and their families.

Thank you!

As the new year approaches, and we have a new project ready to launch, we are excited to share with you some of the many achievements our students have made during 2019.

With the generous support of donors such as yourself, we were able to raise the funds necessary to support our Primary Year 4 class English education for an entire school year, running from May 2019 to March 2020. You have given 20 disadvantaged Thai children in 4th grade the opportunity to learn English from a qualified, fluent English teacher. Consequently, these students were and will be able to develop their English skills along with their potential for advanced financial futures.

The students of Primary 4, in both our English programme and our EIS programme, have shown great improvements in their English speaking skills as well as increased confidence in learning. During this last term, our 10 year olds have enjoyed learning about school subjects, different school places and their favorite foods. They are now able to effectively communicate where things are, what their favorite subjects are and have also learnt how to talk about what kinds of food they like and dislike. In their Science in English classes, our young learners have been taught about different sources of water in the world and their English names. Their science teacher, Jerlin, has also talked about why clean water is so important for the planet and started introducing the issue of climate change. With teacher Jes, our qualified Mathematics teacher, they have learnt about measurements such as mass and volume - they were all very interested and excited!

Moreover, these students showed extraordinary initiative, asking for additional tutoring during their lunch breaks. Our teachers were so inspired by the students' eagerness to learn, they sacrificed their lunch breaks to open up their classrooms to all interested students. The students asked to focus on Math taught in English as they felt that area needed the most improvement.
