Farming is a brave project for those around the world who face climate change on a daily basis. Farming in Ghana faces those challenges as well as the challenges of small scale farmers having access to important technologies that can help them grow and live better. Akuafo Go Solar has established a central educational space to help farmers learn about solar drip irrigation and to think about how to work together to utilize equipment and support that can benefit an entire region.
The first stage of the project was to build a tower for a water tank, to research plowing and clearing methods in the region, and to work one plot of land to demonstrate the value in solar drip irrigation. Having completed 75% of this stage, the next step of the project will be to work in the dry season to lay drip line, experiment with planting a couple of different crops, and begin to draw in farmers for small meetings about the project leading to more widespread educational efforts. We thank you for your support thus far and look forward to 2023 as a year to complete the first stage and to being on the second.
In the meantime, corn has been harvested from the demonstration plot, and core stakeholders are building the foundation for networking with more farmers and gaining support from key government and tribal leaders.
