Project Report: Aid to Drought & Conflict Affected People Ethiopia (#58760)
Report Date: February 2025
Project Overview:
The Aid to Drought & Conflict Affected People Ethiopia project is dedicated to providing emergency assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and drought-affected populations in Ethiopia. The project targets particularly vulnerable groups, including those displaced by conflict in the Wolega region and those impacted by severe droughts in areas like Wag Himra and Borena. We focus on providing essential services, including food, clean water, shelter, and medical aid.
Progress & Challenges:
As of the last reporting period, we have continued to provide much-needed assistance to over 12,765 women and children IDPs residing in Debre Birhan who have received no other humanitarian support. Our efforts have also reached communities in other drought-affected regions.
However, recent governmental and global challenges, including a stop-work order from the US Government, have significantly impacted our ability to carry out operations in Ethiopia. This development has made project implementation increasingly difficult, not just for us, but also for other international organizations operating in the region. Many have had to realign their operational plans or halt support entirely, which has further strained the resources available for vulnerable populations.
Additionally, we have faced challenges in securing enough funding through the GlobalGiving platform. Despite our efforts, we were unable to mobilize sufficient funds to fully support the growing needs of the IDPs in Debre Birhan and other affected areas. As a result, we have been reaching out to individual donors and local communities to help contribute towards providing essential aid to these populations. Your support through direct donations has been invaluable in bridging the gap and enabling us to continue our work on the ground.
Urgent Call for Support:
The situation has reached a critical point, particularly for children, pregnant mothers, and others who are most vulnerable. Without immediate intervention, these individuals face a grim reality, as many are at risk of dying from hunger and disease. We call on all individuals, organizations, and supporters to step forward and help these vulnerable people now. Without urgent support, their survival is in jeopardy. The dire conditions demand immediate action—your contribution, no matter how small, can save lives.
Impact of the Stop-Work Order on Project Operations:
The stop-work order has disrupted funding channels and hindered the free flow of support from international donors. With the loss of essential funding, projects across Ethiopia are being delayed or scaled back. We are currently exploring alternative funding mechanisms and seeking new partnerships to ensure continuity in delivering life-saving services.
Future Steps & Strategy:
To manage this crisis, we will continue to:

Seek partnerships with local organizations and other international development partners to ensure that support can be sustained despite these challenges.
Adjust our activities to address the evolving situation, focusing on the most urgent needs such as food security and access to clean water.
Monitor the political and regulatory landscape to make necessary adjustments to project operations.
Continue mobilizing individual donations to support IDPs, while looking for new avenues to secure more consistent funding.
Appreciation for GlobalGiving's Continued Support:
We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation to GlobalGiving for its continuous support and encouragement. Their commitment to our project has been invaluable in helping us overcome the challenges we face, especially during these difficult times. With GlobalGiving’s support, we are able to continue our critical work and ensure that the people who need help the most receive the aid they urgently require.
Acknowledgement of Donor Support:
We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of our donors. Your contributions have been vital in helping us provide emergency aid to those affected by the ongoing crisis. While the situation is difficult, your generosity enables us to make a tangible impact in the lives of those who need it most.
Closing Remarks:
We understand the importance of keeping you informed about the progress of our project and its impact. Please rest assured that we are working diligently to overcome these challenges, and we will keep you updated on any further developments.
Thank you for your continued support!
