Building infrastructure for environmentaleducation

Building infrastructure for orchards

Dear friend,
We are really happy about the project that’s about to start in the Minga Foundation. As you know, we have been working along educational establishments to promote beneficial activities for children. In this path, we diagnosed a serious infrastructure problem in a lot of public schools and kindergartens. Most public schools don't have a good space to learn about the environment and how to take care of it. Although the institutions are incorporating these subjects to the educational program, the infrastructure does not support this kind of activities.

In this context, we developed a project to build and install orchards and compost areas in four kindergartens and one school, all located in the Valparaíso region. This project was conceived along with directors and educational communities, to help the teachers to have more educational tools, and the children to have quality spaces in the outside.

In these moments we are finishing the construction stages, so we can install the orchards in July. Once the spaces are able to be enjoyed, there will be workshops for families, teachers and children, to learn how to keep these spaces in optimal conditions. Also, there will be a healthy cooking workshop for the families, to learn how to make nutritious recipes for their kids, using the vegetables that are growing in the orchards.

This kind of project seeks to develop healthy habits from childhood, considering that in this life stage people spend a lot of time in educational establishments. Also, the families considered these institutions as safe places for the children, so it is very important to have quality infrastructure for environmental education.
