Ludoteca Merced News

By Johanna Rehn | Volunteer

Hello and thank you,

We are so grateful for your dear help and that we have been able to share so many beautiful moments with the kids this month.

What a treasure it is to continue to welcome our kids to our playful Ludoteca almost every day of the week.
Here´s what a normal day at the Ludoteca can look like.
Our kids drop in one by one after they have finished school, we greet and hug each other and start playing card games or perhaps hide and seek in the yard. When the majority have gathered it´s time to start the workshop. On a Tuesday we have a professional circus artist teaching us the ropes and how to do juggling for example. On a Wednesday we cook something, probably one of the volunteers from around the world has a recipy and some photos or stories to add to the cooking.
If you drop by on a Thursday you will see us hunched over the camera or computer, because we have recently started our new project Ludorandom. A media project that shortly will be launched on Youtube - where the kids will record, cut and show what we do at Ludoteca, for example how we celebrated Midsommar together, a traditional Swedish feast where you dance around a pole as a frog and play silly games. And eat a lot of Swedish meatballs of course.
Talking about feasts, on Fridays we often celebrate the kids birthdays by playing football in the big hall nextdoor, after that we sing, probably listen to an improvised rap from one of the kids, often they also share their best jokes and obviously – we dig into the birthday cake. What a joy!

This last month we had a great big celebration – the 5th anniversary of MingaValpo! How amazing it is that we have been existing, creating, playing and working for four whole years already. And it will hopefully be many more years to come.
The day was full of tasty food, live music and fun games, we walked and danced as a big samba train up and down the streets with instruments and shouts - no one in our neighbourhood Cerro Merced have gone unnoticed about this grand day!
There were also an initiation of a colaboration with the PUCV – Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. From now on we will have students volunteering and teachers will add their knowledge and assistance to the Foundation and the Ludoteca. The other day three students joined Ludoteca for a whole day to play creative and smart games that they had created for us, shared fun is double joy.
That is what we have noticed many times here at Ludoteca. Thank you for adding to the joy!
