Coffee production is significant contributor to operational areas of COSMA, providing livelihoods for thousands of people, particularly in rural Sembabule where Cosma operates. This report provides an overview of coffee farmer groups in Sembabule, their challenges, and potential solutions.
In the last season 2023, Cosma awarded one coffee cooperatives Nezikokolima financing in form of fertilizers and cash financing to aid their coffee production
This season the coffee farmers in the same cooperatives realized an increase in the coffee harvest. Mr Matwale a coffee farmer under Nezikokolima would previously harvest 8 bags without any fertilizer inputs, but after Cosma intervention with fertilizer application loan, an acre yielded 15 bags. An average bag is 90 Kgs this is equivalent to 720kg vs 1350kg, Significant 95% increase in the harvest
Cosma is committed to this increase in productivity for most coffee farmers through input financing of coffee organic fertilizers and agronomic practices. This program increases the resilience of smallholder Coffee farmers in Uganda
