As reported in the previous reports, Cosma has continued to provide farmers with high quality improved maize seeds to increase crop yields. Recipients have been responsible to return 10% of their harvest to Cosma, this has allowed the organization to sell and buy a new batch of high-quality seeds for the next season. This season B (2nd season) 2023, we distributed 360 kilograms of improved seed variety to 42 farmers and each farmer receiving between 5kgs-10kgs
Below pictures, reflect how the season has performed in terms of harvest. The season has been characterized with a bountiful of harvest given sufficient rains received with good seed varieties supplied by Cosma
Over 95% of total expected harvest quantities has been received with good returns on harvest however with such bounty harvest, communities are faced with postharvest management challenges thereon affecting quality and there on bad selling price.
This is our next challenge to tackle on our agenda to fix all loopholes in post harvest challenges
