Disadvantaged families in Phuket and beyond rely on the help of Phuket Has Been Good to Us (PHBGTU) to provide their children with an invaluable English education. The Kings Fund Foundation Kamala School also gives 220 students a safe place to sleep and PHBGTU runs afterschool clubs for these children. We depend on the help of generous donors to allow us to provide for these children who otherwise, would not get the same opportunities and education. This is where you come in!
In a 2023 study, Thailand ranked 103th out of 113 non-native English speaking countries in English Proficiency. Children from low income families are often swallowed into the cycle of poverty and child labour due to limited access to resources. By improving their written and spoken English, it hugely bolsters their prospects of success in their future life and opens them up to potential employment opportunities.
Your invaluable support allows PHBGTU to deliver an essential English education to over 700 disadvantaged children aged 6 to 18 from the local community and beyond. Additionally, our after-school program offers students a space to explore their interests, develop new skills, and practise their English in a safe and engaging environment. For the 220 residential students, this program provides a nurturing space for the children to be children- to play, discover new hobbies, and grow.
With tourism being such a key industry in Phuket, Thailand, the ability to speak a global language is indispensable in accessing a range of career options. By fostering language skills and encouraging the children to dream big for their futures, our project equips them with both the educational foundation as well as the confidence needed to succeed in their later lives.
