ABCF Conservation projects

Our mission in 2025 is to protect wildlife and preserve vital ecosystems through ongoing patrols, snare recoveries, poacher arrests, and confiscation of illegal items. Our partnership and collaboration with the Conservation and Wildlife Fund (CWF), Bumi Hills Anti-Poaching Unit (BHAPU), and Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ) is advancing our conservation efforts across Hwange National Park, Bumi Hills, and Lower Zambezi National Park.

The Lion Boma and Lion Guardian Projects are vital in protecting livestock, reducing human-wildlife conflict, and preventing retaliatory killings of wild animals. A boma is a cloth material used to cover kraals (wooden livestock pens), preventing predators from seeing the animals inside. The Lion Guardians play an important role in protecting both communities and wildlife by alerting locals to the presence of lions in the area. They also conduct thorough kraal and herd assessments, ensuring livestock enclosures are built to maximize protection and evaluating the health and well-being of the animals.

This year, we will install 20 additional lion bomas in communities surrounding our Experiences and employ full-time lion guardians to work with the community to promote conservation.

Drilling new well points in the National Park in Botswana 

African Bush Camps Foundation has completed the installation of 5 well points in the Linyanti Concession to tackle the drought. The 5 solar-powered wells are pumping 5,000 liters of water each hour into watering holes in the park for wildlife to drink.

Community Wash Points

African Bush Camps Foundation is funding 10 new community wash points in rivers in the lower Zambezi. Every year, men and women lose their lives due to crocodile attacks while doing their washing in the Zambezi River. To keep these communities safe, CLZ has developed a fencing system that protects the designated wash points to reduce the risk of crocodile attacks. The first washing point is currently being designed and once erected and proven effective, will be replicated at different sites along the river.

Our goal is to install 10 wash bays in the river which will aim to keep men and women safe, reduce fatalities, and mitigate human-wildlife conflict.
