OVERVIEW

Child Protection

Tabitha Home provides a safe and nurturing environment for 60 children, ensuring compliance with Child Rights Laws, Safeguarding Policies, and Health and Safety regulations. Security is maintained 24/7 in partnership with community personnel.

Nutritional Support

Children at Tabitha Home receive three nutritious meals daily, supplemented with snacks, fruits, and vitamins to support growth and development.

Educational Support

Through partnerships with reputable institutions, Tabitha Home ensures quality education for beneficiaries across all levels, from nursery to university. In 2024, seven teenagers wrote the JAMB exam, with six gaining admission. Academic growth is further supported by private tutors, a well-stocked library, and active participation in extracurricular activities.

Tabitha Home Academy (Craft Plus)

The Craft Plus Academy equips children with craft skills through in-house training. Beneficiaries create products such as earrings, backpacks, and wallets, fostering creativity and self-reliance.

CPR Training

In the month of July, a Red Cross Personnel trained the staff and children at the home in administering CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation). He explained CPR using the DR ABC steps, which includes checking the patient’s responsiveness, opening the airway, checking for normal breathing, and starting chest compressions until the patient responds. Additionally, the children and staff were taught how to provide first aid to someone who is choking and bleeding, as well as someone who fainted or has fractured arm.

Engineering Club

In November, Graceville Foundation and SMART Kids Engineer launched a STEM-focused engineering club at Tabitha Home, engaging 20 children in a hands-on 12-week program. The aim of the club is to foster learning and skill development, empowering the children with valuable educational opportunities.

10th Anniversary

In August 2024, Tabitha Home marked its 10th anniversary with a series of events, including a documentary shoot on August 12th, a praise evening on August 18th, a fun outing to Shoprite Mall, and a thanksgiving service at New Covenant Church on August 25th. The celebrations concluded with a house party, reflecting on a decade of impact and reaffirming Tabitha Home's commitment to empowering children for a brighter future.

Africa Mathematics Project

In June, four children from Victory School Nursery and Primary School were honored with Excellence Awards for their outstanding performance in Mathematics, earning the title of "Mathematics Ambassadors." Similarly, in November, five students from Oke Ado Comprehensive College received the same recognition for their exceptional achievements in Mathematics, further promoting excellence and passion for the subject.

2024 Christmas/Carol Party

Tabitha Home's Annual Christmas and Carol Party took place on December 23, 2024. The joyous event was attended by children from Caring Touch of God Orphanage Home and Kent Home, Tabitha Home's volunteers, staff, and well-wishers.

The celebration featured an exciting lineup of performances, including dance, drama, songs, games, and spoken word presentations by the talented children from Kent Home and Tabitha home. The highlight of the event was the special visit from Father Christmas, who brought gifts and joy to the children. A mascot and DJ also added to the festive atmosphere.

This year's celebration was truly special, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and donors. The children had an unforgettable experience.

COMMUNITY-BASED PROJECTS

Girls Tech 1.4

In collaboration with the Help Initiative and Expert Education Center, Tabitha Home organized the fourth edition of the Girls Tech project, equipping 22 girls from three care homes with essential ICT skills. Held from August 14 to September 3, 2024, at the Expert Education Center, Ibadan, the program introduced participants to coding, including HTML, CSS, and Data Analysis. Facilitators included Expert Education Center staff, Tabitha Home team members, and volunteers, fostering skill development and digital empowerment.

Pad A Girl Project

The "Pad a Girl Project," a collaboration between Help Initiative and Tabitha Home, educated over 369 young girls on menstrual hygiene, sexual and reproductive health, and female genital mutilation (FGM). In June, school-based sessions at Baptist Secondary School and Oke-Ado Comprehensive College reached 287 students, while a community outreach in July engaged 82 girls aged 8-25. Facilitators from the Slum and Rural Health Initiative Network and Tabitha Home staff led interactive sessions, providing participants with sanitary pads, stationery, and refreshments. The project empowered participants with vital knowledge, promoting health awareness and confidence.

School Advocacy Visit

Tabitha Home conducted an Anti-Bullying Campaign to address rising bullying incidents in Nigerian schools. Engaging 166 students aged 4 to 18, the campaign raised awareness, promoted zero-tolerance for bullying, and encouraged positive behavioral change. This initiative fostered a safer, more inclusive school environment.

Rural Women Postpartum Depression Project

In October 2024, Tabitha Home partnered with the Help Initiative to raise awareness about postpartum depression (PPD) among rural women. Outreach sessions across primary health centers engaged over 118 mothers, identifying at-risk individuals and providing expert-led discussions on mental health. The grand finale reached 89 women, distributing Mothercare bags and baby supplies while emphasizing the importance of maternal mental health.

Project Clean Water

Aligning with SDG 6, Tabitha Home ensured clean water access for its community, providing water three times weekly throughout 2024. In December, a focus group discussion evaluated the project's impact, gathering feedback to enhance its effectiveness.

Community Outreach

In February 2024, Tabitha Home, in partnership with the Help Initiative, supported over 150 needy children by distributing food, drinks, snacks, footwear, and clothing, demonstrating a commitment to community well-being.

IN-HOUSE PROJECTS

Tabitha Home implements in-house projects to nurture essential life skills, foster creativity, and promote holistic development among its residents.

Reading Culture

Weekly reading sessions, held every Thursday, focus on enhancing vocabulary and fostering a love for reading. In 2024, the children read Talent Is Never Enough by John C. Maxwell, guided by staff supervision and coordinated by the children themselves. Through the book, they gained valuable insights on initiative, overcoming fear, and managing challenges. The children learned that many underutilize their talents and should push themselves to reach their full potential, with passion serving as a powerful motivator for future skills. An interactive session encouraged children to identify their top five talents, and those uncertain were guided to explore their passions. Additionally, the children expanded their vocabulary and practiced using new words in sentences.

Pep Talk

Monthly sessions on Fridays provide a platform for children to share experiences, discuss challenges, and set goals. Themes such as exam malpractice guide discussions, facilitated by the Home Administrator to encourage expression and learning.

Kids Club

Weekly therapeutic sessions using games, music, and art help children build social skills and self-expression. Themes introduced by the children drive activities that are engaging and educational.

Monthly Birthday Celebration

The Monthly Birthday Celebration at Tabitha Home is a treasured tradition, held on the last Sunday of every month throughout 2024. This special occasion is eagerly anticipated by each child, who takes center stage during their birthday month. On this day, they receive special recognition, heartfelt wishes, and warm felicitations from both staff and fellow children, making it a truly memorable and meaningful experience for all.

Movie Nights

The children enjoy movie nights every Friday evening at 7:00 PM. These sessions help them relax after a busy week of academic activities and transition into the weekend. In 2024, movie nights were held on Fridays except during examination periods.

October 1st Independence Day Celebration

Tabitha Home celebrated Nigeria's Independence Day on October 1st with a vibrant in-house event that highlighted the nation’s rich cultural heritage and creativity. The celebration featured a range of engaging activities, including the singing of the National Anthem, tribe representations, a beauty pageant, a dance drama, and heartfelt performances of patriotic songs and poems.

The event also included interactive games, and both staff and children shared their hopes and aspirations for Nigeria’s future. The day was not only fun-filled but also a valuable opportunity to educate the children on patriotism and unity, fostering a sense of national pride and community spirit.

SOCIAL INTEGRATION ACTIVITIES

Nigerian Children’s Day Celebrations

To mark the 2024 Nigerian Children’s Day, the children participated in several exciting events. On May 25, they attended a Children’s Day party organized by Destiny Trust at Agodi Gardens. They also celebrated at their church, New Covenant Church, Ring Road, and at a party hosted by the Association of Orphanage Homes in Nigeria (ASOHON) at the Ministry of Women Affairs Hall, Samonda, Ibadan.

Additionally, some children represented ASOHON at the Oyo State Government’s Children’s Day celebration, participating in the March Past at Adamasingba Stadium. To conclude the celebrations, an in-house party was held at the home with delicious meals, drinks, and cake sponsored by donors. These events created lasting memories and brought joy to the children.

Panache Summer Day Camp

Five children participated in a two-week camp themed "Be Regimented: Getting it Right." Activities like baking, tie-dye, and career planning emphasized discipline, self-awareness, and creativity. Two children were recognized as Mr. and Miss Panache for their outstanding participation.

GYM Initiative Conference

On July 27th, children from Tabitha Home attended the annual GYM (Great Young Minds) Initiative conference titled "Kings and Priests" at RCCG Covenant Tabernacle, Ibadan. The conference aimed to inspire a Christ-conscious mindset through songs, dance, spoken word performances, prayer sessions, and teachings. The Tabitha Home Dance Crew also gave a dance presentation.

Asido Foundation Adolescent Bootcamp

Two children participated in workshops on mental health and emotional intelligence, gaining valuable life skills.

Music Project

In collaboration with City Gate Musical Academy, Tabitha Home executed two music projects in 2024. The first project involved recording the Nigerian National Anthem, and the second featured a selection of Christmas songs. Weekly rehearsals and training sessions were held every Saturday to prepare the children. The songs were professionally recorded, and a music video production was created for each project, showcasing the children's talent and cultural pride.

Conclusion

Tabitha Home’s comprehensive approach to both in-house and community-based projects continues to make a significant impact on the lives of the children it supports. Through initiatives such as the Girls Tech program, the Pad a Girl Project, the Monthly Birthday Celebrations, and educational outreach programs, Tabitha Home has successfully fostered personal development, empowerment, and community engagement. In-house projects like Pep Talk, Reading Culture, and Kids Club have cultivated essential skills such as social interaction, creativity, and leadership, preparing children for their future endeavors. Social integration events, including Children’s Day celebrations, summer camps, and conferences, have further enriched their experiences, contributing to their emotional and social growth.

These initiatives reflect Tabitha Home's unwavering commitment to the well-being, education, and empowerment of vulnerable children, ensuring they are well-equipped to navigate the challenges of life and contribute positively to society. With continued partnerships and support, Tabitha Home remains dedicated to nurturing young minds, promoting self-reliance, and driving lasting change in their communities.
