Fatima, one of the girls attending the "A Name for a Future" centers, has managed to attend her final year of high school. Her dream is to go to the university and specialize in mathematics, with the goal of becoming a teacher.
Fatima is 23 years old, she's from Aleppo, and she had to leave school when she was only 10 years old.
"I stopped my education in the 5th grade. It was because of the war: we fled to the village of Latakia, and I had to leave my school."
Leaving her studies was very difficult for her: she never stopped thinking about it."When we returned to Aleppo, I immediately looked for a school where I could restart, but the ten-year gap made it impossible for me to pass the entrance tests."
"I kept failing the test, I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t afford private lessons, but I couldn’t do it on my own either: I didn’t even know how to write properly anymore."
However, Fatima didn’t lose heart: studying is her dream and her greatest goal, and it was with this determination that she arrived at the "A Name for a Future" centers.
"Here I felt welcomed and understood. The fact that it's free and that it helps students from the basics of reading and writing allowed me to recover what I had lost in those ten years of interruption. I even passed the test!"
The center also provided her with crucial emotional support after the 2023 earthquake: "The teachers immediately noticed what I went through. The thing that made me really happy was that someone was thinking about me, and caring about me."
"I would like to send a message to everyone who left their education: never stop. You can start again. Don’t stay where you are, don’t say that you can’t. You can: you can study and succeed."
"My dream is to study mathematics, and maybe come back here to teach: I really don’t want to leave this center at all!"
It’s thanks to your support that girls like Fatima can chase their dreams, study, and build the future they desire. Thank you!
