Public Toilets in the Markets - A WASH Facility for Rural Women In rural towns and marketplaces across Sindh, thousands of women visit local markets every day to buy essentials or earn livelihoods, yet there is no access to safe, clean, and gender-sensitive public toilets. This project by NDF Pakistan seeks to construct accessible and dignified public WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) facilities in local markets, specifically designed for women, elderly, and persons with disabilities.
Rural women in Pakistan, particularly in areas like Nawabshah, Larkana, and other towns of Sindh, face serious health risks, humiliation, and safety concerns due to the complete absence of public toilets in markets. They are often forced to either avoid going out, suppress natural urges for hours, or use unsafe, unhygienic open spaces. This disproportionately affects women with disabilities, pregnant women, and elderly women. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) and other health problems are common.
This project by NDF Pakistan seeks to construct accessible and dignified public WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) facilities in local markets, specifically designed for women, elderly, and persons with disabilities. This will address a basic human right, ensure public health, and support women's participation in economic and social life.
NDF has established Rain Emergency Pool Fund, which will bring long lasting impact that the good will be adopted by other organizations too, to respond quickly. In this way, we will not wait for response from Government, International NGOs, locally it will be managed then will be connected with expanded Response by Government & International Organizations. The Pool fund will help in all phases like Rescue, Relief & Rehabilitation. The Fund will provide, food, shelter, protection, WASH & others
