This microproject aims to reduce community violence by addressing emotional traumas among vulnerable adolescents and youth in Sri Lanka. Founded in 2016, Shanthi Maargam (SM) tackles severe psychosocial challenges including sexual abuse, economic instability, and ethnic tensions, which contribute to high rates of substance abuse, suicides, and teenage pregnancies. Despite funding challenges, this project seeks to sustain and expand these vital services during this critical period in Sri Lanka.
SM founded in 2016, aims to reduce community violence by healing the emotional traumas of vulnerable adolescents and youth in Sri Lanka. The project tackles the severe psychosocial challenges resulting from sexual abuse, economic crises, and ethnic polarization. With high rates of substance abuse, suicides, and teenage pregnancies, and a lack of accessible mental health services, SM provides essential psychosocial support and safe spaces, addressing the urgent need for mental health.
Shanthi Maargam is currently facing funding challenges to sustain its services. The funds raised through this project will help us continue providing essential services to the community during this critical time in Sri Lanka, where our support is greatly needed.
By healing the emotional traumas of vulnerable children and youth while using a youth development approach, we can help them find deeper levels of peace and resilience, and in the long-term learn to break the cycle of violence in their families and communities while and developing inter-faith harmony which our country so badly needs.
