With the recent adaptation of our program DANZAREA to a virtual format, we face new challenges. Many of the children lack appropriate electronic devices and/or internet access which would allow them to take their classes online and complete their assignments. Today, connectivity and electronic equipment are vital when all learning activities must be carried out from home. With the funds raised, we will provide a short-medium term solution for this problem. Our students can continue to learn.
62% of Panama's total population has access to internet, with noticeable absence in low-income areas, even in the metropolitan area of the capital. This means, that most of our students lack internet access and/or electronic devices to properly navigate. Since March, all Panamanian public schools remain closed, only sending home guides for the students, as we also adapted our program to a virtual format to allow them to continue their dance lessons as well as workshops led by our psychologist.
We will acquire 30 tablets and 30 (6 month) internet contracts for our DANZAREA students. With this solution, we can guarantee our students will be able to participate in our dance classes, in school classes, complete their homework. Our goal is for them to continue learning and growing in a safe environment despite the current world crisis.
This project which started in 2008 has already benefited thousands of children and teenagers from at-risk communities in Panama City, instilling love for art and culture. DANZAREA will contribute to the comprehensive education of the children with the goal that they remain in the project until they complete their high school education. They will be encouraged to complete school, continue with university studies, and become young adults who will sustain a job and finally break their poverty cycle
