Aklla has the purpose of making the people of Peru aware of the difficult times we are living through and promoting opportunities so that more girls and boys can have a better future.
Aklla is 13 years old and lives in Callao, Peru. She entered Peru Champs six years ago as an academic talent, thanks to a classmate’s mom who told Aklla’s about how her son had applied for the Peru Champs Scholarship when they were in the 1st grade of primary school. By then, Aklla was very young; however, when her mother explained to her about Peru Champs and she got to know her new school better, she knew that it was a unique opportunity that life had presented her.
Belonging to the Peru Champs family fills her with pride. She has learned to value every opportunity that comes in her way and strives to make the most of them. “Peru Champs changes your life, if it were not for this beautiful support, I would not be who I am now, the people I have met, the experiences I have gone through, the things I have learned, they have changed me and helped me find my purpose in life.”, she tells us.
At the beginning, when the coronavirus pandemic first arrived in Peru, she had difficulties because she did not have a computer at home, nor Wi-Fi, and depended on her father's cellphone to do her homework, but Aklla continued to make an effort, and after the support of Peru Champs she managed to get laptop from school to better carry out her online education. Her perseverance is what drives her to becoming a person who stands out among others, not because she wants to be famous, but, because she wants to become an example for others to follow with her vision of a better Peru, with more supportive, empathetic people and working to create new educational opportunities in the country.
Aklla wants more boys and girls like her to have the same opportunity to grow up with a quality education to contribute to the progress of Peru and see her family happy. She knows that there is a long way to go but by overcoming challenges and putting forth a lot of effort, her purpose will be achieved. Therefore, to all low-income children with great talents, she leaves this message:
“It is okay to be afraid, it is normal to be afraid of what may happen in our future, if things go well or badly. But you must be brave. Why? Because we must give the best of ourselves, shine in this difficult world, turn your dreams into goals, strive to achieve your goals and what makes you happy. Face your problems, look at the positive in things, that way you gain strength, and you’ll see that everything will really be worth it. "
