This microproject will change the lives of L M and her family by providing a scholarship for L M to finish an Auxiliary Nursing program. With a nursing job, L M will no longer have to transport stones and sand by wheelbarrow with her mother to help provide for their family of 5 girls, two grandchildren and an 85 year old grandmother. She will gain productive employment and contribute to the health and education of her family and that of her community.
L M's mother and others like her have almost no education and are the sole support for several children. As the girls grow up they are expected to help their mother to provide for the younger children, so opportunities for further education are nonexistent because of the difficult economic situation of the family. The girls become pregnant as adolescents further complicating the possibility of an education, and so the cycle of poverty continues.
The project will pay the cost of Auxiliary Nursing training for L M whose mother is the head of the family of 5 daughters, two grandchildren and an 85 year old grandmother. She is unable to give L M the financial support she needs to study. L M's education will enable her to gain productive employment to help sustain her family. She will be able to contribute to the health and education of her family and to the development of her community.
Educating girls promotes many positive changes. Educated girls have children later and usually have fewer children. They put more importance on a good education for each child and are more aware of the importance of good health care for their children. Educated girls are more prepared to begin to break the cycle of poverty. They are better prepared to contribute to the development of their community and their country.
