Nepal's poorest families are unable to afford the cost of education for their children and by desperation and/or custom are often compelled to send their children out as child laborers.
The child labor practice is a vicious cycle which contributes to the poverty trap and is a chronic problem in Nepalese society. Parents are not fully aware of the importance of childhood. While the poorest families struggle to sustain themselves and are compelled to send their children out to work, there are also families that feel pride in taking in these children, often under dubious circumstances. Policy provisions of the government in this matter are not effectively implemented.
The project takes children out of their situations of servitude, and through providing educational opportunity for 200+ children, breaks the chain of child labor from the grass-root level. The children will get counseling, a bridging course, educational material and school uniforms as well as help with tuition fees. The parents will receive awareness and enhanced knowledge and skills through parenting education and vocational skill training, with tools and material for small business enterprise
People in the target community will have a dignified and healthy life with long-term access to government resources. There will be child labor-free villages that have access to quality education, better health, and a child-friendly environment. Our goal is community with peace and prosperity.
